The mission of St Jude-VIVA Survivorship is to bring together international experts to educate healthcare professionals on the best practices and standard of care on childhood cancer survivorship. We seek to advance this important of survivorship care and to provide a platform for paediatric oncology practitioners of diverse backgrounds to converge and address the challenges associated with the delivery of survivorship care.
VIVA foundation for children with cancer was set up 15 years ago to save the lives of cancer in children through medical treatment, research and education. We have come a long way under the guidance of Dr. Ching-Hon Pui of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital who is also the chairman of our external advisory board. Today, thanks to Dr Pui and his team at St. Jude ALL has a published cure rate of 94%. In China, the Children's Cancer Foundation is supporting a 10-year ALL study involving 15,000 children in more than 25 hospitals across China. The five year survival rate is 91% and for the past 15 years, we have been organizing the annual St. Jude-VIVA Forum in pediatric oncology together with St. Jude, NUH, and KKH in Singapore in order to set up a platform for doctors and scientists from St. Jude and advance medical centers in the West to share their knowledge with doctors in Asia.
Today, we have many more childhood cancer survivors, especially ALL. We know that these survivors need continuing care and support as they are at a higher risk of future cancers and diseases. We hope that survivors will not only survive, but also thrive and we are thankful that Dr. Melissa Hudson is here to make that happen.
We are so thrilled to have Dr Melissa Hudson, create and kickstart this series on cancer survivorship. This series is an important milestone in pediatric oncology and to my knowledge, there has never been such a comprehensive course like this before to date. Thank you Dr Hudson, for making this landmark event happen.
We would like to also thank everyone at the faculty of St. Jude-VIVA Survivorship for their sacrifice and commitment. Last but not least, on behalf of all the children with cancer and survivors all over the world. I wish you all a very happy and healthy New Year.
